Mal joined the shed in 2018. He has served several terms as Chairman and Vice Chairman. Mal is a very experienced businessman and has been instrumental in managing our fund raising and planning programs including creating and implementing growth strategies for the shed. Mal is a private pilot and has held senior roles in Rotary Clubs for many years.

Kevin joined the shed in 2018 before we had a shed and were meeting in the Stone Bake Café. Duty Manager, Newsletter Editor and on the Website team. Previously Community Projects Co-Ordinator and committee member. Strong supporter of Men’s Shed concept for the retired and regularly visits other sheds both in New Zealand and overseas.  Completed many community projects in the shed. Work history in manufacturing, and publishing. A keen DIYer.
 John-Tattersall-1.jpgSecretary - John Tattersall

John has held Past President positions in 2 Aero Clubs and various roles as Board Secretary. A champion horse rider growing up with a diverse background in various fields. Served as an Aircraft Engineer at Hamilton Aerospace Industries. Commercial pilot licence for 3 years in Kerikeri, and private pilot for 44 years. Degree in Horticultural Science, specializing in soil science and sub-tropical crops pest control. Qualified through the NZ Ambulance academy as a St John Ambulance paramedic. 32+ years as an international enterprise software consultant on the global stage before retiring at 65. Competed in a motocross sponsored team. Second mechanic on New Zealand's fastest offshore power boat (Fairview Windows and Doors). Managed fleet maintenance for Sacred Heart College rowing fleet. Pit crew for NZL BMW driver series car 555.

Andrew-Tuckey-1.jpgTreasurer - Andrew Tuckey

Andrew joined the shed in May 2023 and took on the role of Treasurer shortly after. In addition, he looks after fundraising applications as well as preparing reports for the committee meetings and statutory annual accounts. In his working life, Andrew was a Chartered Accountant in public practice for 37 years.

Alan is a retired civil engineer and infrastructure project manager. He joined the Shed in 2016 and has been a member of the Shed’s GC for the last 8 years. He was Chair in 2022 and 2023 having been Vice Chair for the two years before that. Contributions to the Shed include planning and supervision of the Building Improvement Programme, our Environmental Projects portfolio, and developing relationships with materials suppliers and customers.  He also maintains the support of Ōrākei Local Board. Alan is passionate about the Shed’s place in this community, its development and reputation, and how it benefits the lives of each of the members.

Douglas-Ormrod-1.jpgDouglas Ormrod

Douglas joined the shed on retirement in 2022. As well as being a Governing Committee Member, he chairs the Shed Management Committee (SMC) and co-supervises the main wood shop. Douglas is a Scottish person who migrated to NZ in 1974. He worked in medical research, and latterly research administration, for 56 years. Always a keen car/bike restorer and DIYer. His transferable skills are pen turning, bandsaw box making and gingernut dunking.

A member since 2019. Previous Chair of Shed Management Committee. Worked on strategic review, lifting the importance of Health and Safety, teamwork, key values and the core purposes of the Shed.
35 years’ experience in the energy industry across New Zealand and internationally in operational and leadership roles, including corporate governance experience. Specialised knowledge in property planning and development.

Denis-Sullivan.jpgDenis Sullivan

Denis joined the Men’s Shed Auckland East in November 2019. It’s a great place for retired men to spend time with their peers. He enjoys the opportunity to take part in the activities that the Shed offers but most importantly the chance to make things which make him think about the job in hand and which will help to maintain his mental health.
In addition to being a Duty Manager and a member of the Governance Committee he participates in the always busy environmental workshop.
Denis feels privileged to be part of the many who have built and maintained this Shed, to be one of the most successful in the country.

Phil O'Flaherty
Phil has been a member of the shed since 2018. He has been heavily involved in the rebuild of the old council utility shed into a state-of-the-art Men’s Shed. As well as building most of the walls in our shed, Phil works in our Conservation production and Duty Manager teams.
Phil qualified in heating and ventilation for 12 years. Had a career change and joined Air New Zealand. After 42 years he retired as an On-Board Manager.

Alan Simpson
Previously Chairman of a West Australian Men’s Shed. Alan is a keen musician and spends most of his shed time working on electronic projects, 3D printing and laser engraving. Also a keen modeller and built a replica of the 2 story coach he drove the length and breadth of Australia. Alan’s wife Penny is also a member of the shed and she joins him in the shed on a regular basis.

Don Morrison
Don Joined the Shed at the inaugural meeting in 2016 and has been involved in the introduction of most of the administrative systems since that first meeting. He serves as an Ex Officio Member of the Governance Committee and as Office Manager.  His current role involves coordinating the administrative systems with other functions such as accounting, membership, operations, communications and community projects.

Bernie Ward – Community Projects Co Ordinator
Founding member, inaugural deputy chair (2 years) followed by 2 years as chair. Also area rep for MSNZ. Woodworking experience including timber recovery, chainsaw work and machinery. Set up and ran BBQs etc (now handed over to others). Fills Duty Manager role as emergency stand in. Present at shed most days.
